Sarah Ramsey's summer at Loon Lake won't be like any of the other summers spent at the isolated lake where her parents grew up. Sarah's parents are barely speaking and her pretty and popular older sister is getting all the attention.
Sarah enlists her two friends, Jake and Rob, on an excursion to the forbidden Big Island. There they discover a pile of old bones in tattered clothes half-buried near a small bungalow. Jake and Rob don't want trouble, but Sarah's curiosity won't let it go. She begins to investigate and uncovers another mystery: a hotel that burned down in the 1920s, killing several people. A fire that was no accident.
In an era of cell phones and Internet access, Sarah has to dig through old newspapers and talk to the great-grandmother of neighbors to glean facts. The revelations stir up something evil. Sarah is threatened, her sister mysteriously disappears, and Sarah must find answers before something terrible happens.
