It starts with original art, after which I write short works of fiction based upon the artwork. The fiction is intentionally brief; in fact, there are more than 68 short stories in the book.
According to a popular song, "every picture tells a story." In this case, both disciplines come from the same source: the fertile imagination of John Nieman.
The pictures of the original paintings frequently nod to pop culture. The short stories are loosely based on the images, often with an ironic or twisted twist. The combination of art and stories runs the gamut from humorous to heroic, sad to surprising, whimsical to wonderful.
