Zusammenfassung

Conversion of Biogas to Transportation Fuels presents a comprehensive examination of cutting-edge processes that transform biogas into viable transportation fuels. This authoritative resource details direct and indirect conversion methods for transforming biogas produced from a variety of feedstocks including animal waste, agricultural residues, municipal solid waste, and wastewater treatment sludge. Both conversion to compressed methane gas and indirect liquefaction pathways utilizing catalytic thermochemical reforming and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis are addressed in detail. The book offers an unparalleled exploration of the complete biogas-to-fuel value chain, addressing critical purification challenges, carbon dioxide separation techniques, and catalyst development innovations essential for commercial implementation.

. Delivers in-depth analysis of both direct and indirect biogas conversion technologies

. Addresses key technological challenges including biogas purification, carbon dioxide separation, and catalyst development

. Evaluates economic feasibility and implementation requirements for real-world applications

. Features research from leading experts in renewable energy systems

. Includes practical examples demonstrating successful technology deployment

. Provides essential policy frameworks and environmental impact assessments for sustainable adoption

This essential reference serves researchers, engineers, energy policymakers, and graduate students working at the intersection of renewable energy and chemical and environmental engineering. By offering practical solutions to reduce fossil fuel dependence, the book equips professionals with the knowledge to overcome technical barriers, navigate regulatory landscapes, and accelerate the commercial development of biogas-derived transportation fuels, ultimately contributing to global carbon reduction goals while creating new opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

Babu Joseph obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He then joined the Energy Lab at MIT where he worked on the development of ASPEN Simulator. He joined Washington University in St. Louis in 1978 where he became the Edward C. Dicke Professor in 2000. In 2002, he moved to become Professor and Chair of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at University of South Florida in Tampa. His research is focused on waste to energy conversion using thermocatalytic methods. He is the author of two books and over 200 technical publications. During 1985-86 he was Visiting Professor at the University of California at Berkeley, and during 2016-17 he was Visiting Fulbright-Nehru Scholar at IIT/Bombay. He has been a Fellow of AIChE since 2009.

Rarosue Amaraibi obtained her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and M.A. in Global Sustainability from the University of South Florida. Her doctoral research focused on integrated process modeling, techno-economic analysis, and life cycle assessment of biogas-to-energy systems. She subsequently held a postdoctoral research position at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, now the National Laboratory of the Rockies, where she applied techno-economic, sustainability, and market analysis to plastics recycling and the manufacturing and circularity of advanced materials for vehicle lightweighting. She is currently a Senior Power Generation Engineer at NextEra Energy, where she works on the performance and optimization of renewable natural gas systems.

>75 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, 4 patents, and 3 book chapters.

Devin Walker obtained his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Florida and M.S. from University of South Florida in Chemical Engineering. He is one of the founders of T2C-Energy (https://www.t2cenergy.com/ ) a small business firm working on commercializing technology for converting landfill gas to diesel and jet fuel.

Olusola Johnson is a chemical engineer specializing in heterogeneous catalysis, reaction engineering, and sustainable fuel production. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Florida and is currently a postdoctoral appointee at Argonne National Laboratory. His research focuses on catalytic natural gas and light alkane conversion, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, biogas upgrading, and autonomous experimentation for accelerating catalyst and process development.

John N. Kuhn obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University and did postdoctoral research at the University of California before joining the faculty in Chemical Engineering at the University of South Florida. His research is focused on catalytic methods for production of renewable fuels. He has over 120 technical publications and 10 patents.
