William dreams of becoming an author. Trapped in an unhappy home with a mother who constantly bullies and belittles him, he battles depression and suicidal thoughts while longing to return to London, the city of his birth. His life seems destined to remain unchanged?until Laura enters it.

Laura is fighting battles of her own. Vicious rumours have damaged her reputation and threatened to destroy the life she has tried to build. Like William, she dreams of becoming an author, and the two discover in each other a friendship born from shared hopes, disappointments and loneliness.
