"Tracking The Times" is a history and culture book as well as a study of protest music. It includes hundreds of photos and many interviews and quotes directly from the artists in its pages. The author attended concerts by many of them, has met many, and traveled to many of the sites photographed for the book (i.e., the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, artists' graves, and pivotal sites in Europe).

The book spans artists of many genres and their eras. A study of the last century of protest music has never been done before. It is timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. and is very strictly chronological.
