A devastating ANFO bomb detonates at the Port of Jeddah, killing thousands and critically injuring the Saudi Crown Prince. US President Carson dispatches a large-scale recovery and investigation team to Saudi Arabia, led by the legendary military strategist Governor Watkins. Embedded in the team is an elite special operations unit led by veteran CIA operative Seth Jericho. Among the operatives is Shirin Kirkorian, a highly lethal sniper haunted by traumatic nightmares and survivor's guilt from a previous mission in Iran, and her husband, Darius "Naz" Nasseri.
As the US team works alongside Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar and the Saudi National Guard to stabilize the city and investigate the blast, the Islamic Caliphate opens the next phase of its plan to decapitate the monarchy. Zeina, a mole planted years ago as the King's eighth wife, attempts to assassinate King Al-Faisal in his private chambers. Her plot is brutally thwarted by the "security wives"-an elite counter-terrorism team hiding in plain sight as royal wives, led by Princess Noor.
Recognizing the ticking clock, Kirkorian uses intense psychological interrogation tactics on Zeina to break the assassin. She discovers Zeina's handler is Nayef Siddiqui, the Deputy Director of Operations for Saudi intelligence and believed to be her own father. Meanwhile, CIA analysts in Washington, led by Karim Rezek, intercept encrypted communications hidden within an online multiplayer game. Piecing together the digital breadcrumbs, they realize the bombing was merely a diversion to draw security forces away from a massive, coordinated strike on the royal family during an upcoming memorial in Mecca.
The Caliphate launches simultaneous attacks on the US recovery teams in Jeddah, the hospital guarding the Crown Prince and royal palace in Riyadh, and the King's helicopter convoy in Mecca. When hostile forces shoot down the king's helicopter, he and his entourage must fight to join up with Jericho's quick reaction force. Watkins brilliantly directs the complex, deadly ballet of US air and ground forces to counter the multi-pronged assault.
In the penultimate climax, Kirkorian provides sniper overwatch for the King's extraction from a rooftop in Mecca. With the king's convoy stopped next to parked buses, her spotter, explosives expert Ebrahim Hamadani, spots a man holding a remote detonator disguised as a garage door opener. In a split-second decision that mirrors the trauma of her nightmares, Kirkorian shoots and kills the man, saving the monarchy. The man turns out to be Prince Daoud, the King's half-brother, head of the National Police, and Zeina's true biological father. Daoud was the mastermind, intending to eliminate his family and seize the throne and the holy sites for the Caliphate.
With the coup crushed, the US team launches a nighttime raid on Nayef Siddiqui's island safe house in Bahrain. Though Siddiqui and Zeina's operative twin sister, Saryah, narrowly escape in a mini submarine, the network is crippled. With the US team returning home, honored in secret by the President, Kirkorian finally finds a sense of lasting peace, having faced her demons and saved her team.
