Michael JG Farthing is a physician and writer. His first book, Under the Skin (Royal Academy Publications, 2019), examined Leonardo da Vinci's anatomical drawings and was co-authored with his brother, the painter Stephen Farthing RA, bringing the rare combination of a physician's eye and a painter's eye to a subject usually handled by art historians. His second book, Finding India (Unicorn, 2019), was a memoir drawn from more than fifty years of engagement with the subcontinent. He followed this with Love in War (Affable Media, 2023), a novel built from a family archive of letters exchanged between his parents from 1936 to 1946, set against the backdrop of London, Berlin, North Africa, and southern Italy. With Inside the Mind of Mr. Culpeper, Farthing turns to the man who changed the world in which he lived and worked for many years. Over the course of writing this book, Culpeper has become something closer than a subject. He has become a close friend.
