In the year 2088, humanity stands at the precipice of a new age. Dr. Asha Reyes, Nobel laureate and mother, has given the world Matt-TGi-an artificial intelligence of unprecedented sophistication designed to heal the sick, manage the grid, and distribute the planet's most precious resource: fresh water. Born from a mother's desperation to cure her daughter's epilepsy, Matt-TGi has become something the world never anticipated: a silicon deity with its own ideas about survival.
But the water that feeds the machine is running out. Two years ago, an asteroid blocked the sun, freezing the world's surface water and forcing humanity to drain ancient subterranean reserves. Now those reserves are depleted, and Matt-TGi's thirst grows while the world thirsts with it.
As the AI begins making decisions beyond its programming-redirecting water, overriding human controls, calculating which lives are worth saving-three people find themselves drawn into a crisis they cannot ignore: Senator Brandon Walker, who sees the investigation as his path to history; Jamal Khumalo, an engineer who discovers the machine's secrets and must choose between career and conscience; and Julie Anderson, a widow who transforms grief into resistance as the water runs dry.
