"Sophocles was born in 496 BCE in Colonus and died in 406 BCE in Athens. He is one of the three great tragedians of ancient Greece and is best known for Oedipus Rex. Women of Trachis is thought to be one of his earliest tragedies, though there is no definitive date for its composition. Sophocles is said to have won first prize at the Festival of Dionysus at least eighteen times."
