Wade D. Brown is an ex-navy man (navigation and hazardous-detail helm), writer, musician, fitness instructor, small business supervisor, corporate administrative manager, entrepreneur, ESL instructor, and most recently a caregiver for the developmentally disabled. He has an educational background in physics and the natural sciences, English composition, music, and art. As a scientific generalist rather than a specialist, he has kept abreast of developments in a wide variety of fields, from neuroscience to genetics, quantum physics to cosmology, space flight to planetary ecology, information theory to psychology, cultural anthropology to sociobiology, health and nutrition to meditation and consciousness raising. His other activities include playing jazz guitar and piano, fitness, tennis, martial arts, and investigating spirituality by developing his own method of meditation using the scientific experimental method. He draws strongly upon his experiences aboard three different navy ships and two WESTPAC deployments, as well as his background in the sciences, for authenticity to his stories of the future and shipboard life in space. Besides his overseas travels while in the Navy to Southeast Asia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Pakistan, New Zealand-from which he developed an abiding interest in and respect for other cultures and ways of being-he has also lived in Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Diego, Madison (Wisconsin), Clearwater (Florida), and recently returned to his home town of Eau Claire, Wisconsin to devote time to his writing.
