Mae and her children lived in the Government Housing apartments in the inner city and was divorced. Her husband had arrived alone as a boat refugee in the 80s and, like many who had left their family back in Asia, hitched up with a new Filipina woman here in America.

Ten years later he sponsored Mae here with their two children so the children, could have a better life in the land of plenty, America.
