Edgar Rice Burroughs was an American writer best known for his adventure and science fiction novels. He was a soldier in the 7th US Cavalry at Fort, Arizona Territory, but was discharged after developing a heart problem.
Burroughs was in his late sixties in Honolulu at the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. He applied for permission to become a war correspondent, which he did, and Burroughs became one of the longest-serving American war correspondents during World War II.
