Kyric returns to Aeva and tries to lead the normal life he has always wanted, but the violence and horror of recent events begin to drive him to self-destruction. When Aiyan tracks him down and tells him they are off to find the lost Spice Islands, he jumps at the chance to go along and learn the Way of the Flame. As they begin the journey, a mysterious girl invades Kyric's dreams and shows him how to focus his dream powers in a way he never imagined, all the while leading him into the heart of something dark and deadly that will confront Aiyan with his own murderous youth, stretching his warrior spirit to the breaking point, and forcing Kyric to make some very hard choices. But what does the girl want, and is she even real?
