The developmental anomalies of oral cavity are malformations affecting dental and oral tissues. Anomalies of teeth can be associated with primary, mixed or adult dentitions. Anomalies are the results of perturbations in the developmental stages of tissues which may be influenced by genetic and/or environmental factors. These anomalies often have some serious implications on the further growth and development of the involved organ during the later stages of life. Dental developmental anomalies in tooth number, size, and shape are challenging cases in dentistry, affecting esthetics and function. Detailed study of these anomalies seems essential as they can lead to malocclusion, cosmetic deformities, and problems during tooth extraction or root canal treatment.
