Jude Holmes hears a blood-curdling scream and he runs to the sound. What he finds is a young teenage boy who has been struck in the back of the head with a baseball bat, only the boy's friend and an old man in his nineties are at the scene. After Jude writes an article accusing the old man called Harold of the attack, his boss pressures him to resign, from here things start to turn nasty for Jude, he is anonymously threatened, his dog is attacked and Jude is forced out of town. Harold is well respected in the community, but his past is back to haunt him, and with this comes company; in the form of a mysterious creature who he knows from previous experience.
