She was born in Great Falls, Montana, and lived on a ranch for half her life. She married Merle L. Olson, a rancher, and they have four children, all living in the Sedona, Cottonwood area of Arizona. There family has grown to fifteen grandchildren and forty-two great grandchildren. Merle passed away in 2012. Della May has been the recipient of many prizes for her poetry, road shows, and writing. Humor and action are the hallmark of her stories. She was the valedictorian of Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona at the age of thirty-nine. She believes in hard work and miracles.
