Akili struggled as a young black youth to comprehend and articulate not only his own thoughts but also those of a wide range of complex issues and subject matter such as the following: ourstorical awareness, racism, slavery, self love, mass incarceration, politics, loneliness, poverty, family values, loyalty, betrayal, miseducation, capitalism & oppression to name a few. Not properly knowing where to begin his journey Akili began with self; knowledge of self! Embarking on a lifelong journey of independent research and study Akili began to express the above subject matters the best way he knew how, with a pen! Allow Akili to share his best part which is his mind with those who take the time to examine his work.
