In July of 1505, at the age of 21, Martin Luther entered the Erfurt monastery of the Augustinian Eremites and thus also the realm of this holy order's tradition and the academic theology of the early 16th century. The studies in this volume look into the theological basis which Luther obtained there and its transformation in the course of the Reformation. The authors provide new insights into the relationship between Luther and his late medieval background and question the scholarly construct of an abrupt "Wende".
