When Gertie's old friend--and fellow teacher--Carlotta dies, she leaves Gertie some old letters from the pen pal program they worked on together. Gertie is certain that one of the letters contains a secret message leading to a hidden treasure in Desperado, Texas. She convinces Ida Belle and Fortune that it's not just a fantasy, and the three set out on a treasure hunt adventure.

But when someone steals the letter they know they aren't the only ones looking for the loot. Now the race is on to decipher the clues and get to the treasure first.
