Mrs Alex. McVeigh Miller was the pen name of Mittie Frances Clarke Point (1850-1937), an American novelist who wrote around 80 sensation romances published as "dime novels" between 1881 and 1915 and who was one of the best-known writers of her time. This work was first serialized in the New York Family Story Paper as Jaquelina; or, The Outlaw's Bride during 1882 and later reprinted as part of Street & Smith's Eagle Series no. 192, in which the story was printed alongside another of the author's stories, An Old Man's Darling.
